Jonah  A Veggie-Tales Movie, Big Idea Productions’ first full-length animated film, features Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Archibald Asparagus and the Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything. Producers Paul Vischer and Mike Nawrocki promise their retelling of the Old Testament story of Jonah and the big fish will be as wacky and full of fun as their half-hour videos that have become popular since VeggieTales debuted in 1993 with “Where’s God When I’m S-Scared?” The 90-minute film is set to be released in US theatres Oct. 4.

Yarrow, British Columbia: Mennonite Promise is a two-volume set exploring the early development of this region by the Mennonites from 1928 to 1958. Volume I, Before We Were the Land’s, provides a historical survey of pre-Mennonite and early Mennonite settlement, featuring excerpts from personal memoirs and journals of 30 settlers, 10 of them women. Volume II, Village of Unsettled Yearnings, is a collection of essays serving as a cultural mural of Yarrow 1928–1958. Each volume includes photographs and maps. Carefully researched and documented, the series is written for the general reader. The initiative for this project came from anthropologist J.A. Loewen. The projected release date is early December 2002. The two-volume set is $32.00 (including GST), before Nov. 1. Shipping is extra.
