Hepburn, Sask.
237 youth attend Youth Advance at Bethany

Coming from across Canada, 237 youth from grades 9–12 and 35 youth workers attended this year’s Youth Advance held February 1–3 at Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Sask. The weekend is designed to encourage youth in their spiritual walk and introduce them to the opportunities available at Bethany.

With the theme “thirsty”, participants were directed to examine what makes them thirsty, where they go to satisfy their thirst, what really brings satisfaction, and where to find the “living water” of Jesus.

Guest speaker was Mike Penninga, associate pastor of young adults at Willow Park Church in Kelowna, B.C., who used video clips and advertisements to point the group toward a life of satisfaction and refreshment in Christ. He challenged the youth to take the teachings of Jesus seriously.

The weekend’s leadership team YAC created a space for enjoying activities and building relationships. Worship, challenge and fun comprised the core of the weekend. Highlights included the Friday night banquet, the well-received YAC introduction, the juggling skills of Bob Cates, the first-time Eagles men’s basketball game against the visiting Canadian Bible College from Regina, the classic Saturday “Hockey Night in Hepburn”, and a high-energy concert by dAYZ wAGE.

Other activities offered were basketball, hockey, snow soccer, outdoor hot tubs, day trips to Shekinah Retreat Centre and Redberry Bible Camp, and workshops on drama, dance, music, spiritual retreat and juggling.
