Previous | Next Waterloo, Ont. Grace Mennonite Brethren Church chartered

Grace Mennonite Brethren Church, a new church plant in the Waterloo, Ont. area, held its chartering service February 24 in the chapel of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Mark Johnson, Ontario MB Conference minister, challenged the church to be salt and light, reminding them that their effectiveness is not based on roles and responsibilities but on the fact that God has called them to be a cleansing, preserving and flavouring presence in the world. Made up of ordinary people, the church shows Gods love and makes history by influencing lives for eternity.

Fifty people were brought into membership by transfer; eight people joined by confession of faith; and two members were baptized by Clinton Bell, Ontario MB Conference Board of Church Extension director. In addition, 40 people have expressed a commitment as adherents. Following a celebration of communion led by Henry Wiebe, moderator of the Ontario MB Conference, the congregation joined hands, affirming their commitment to the body of Christ.

Grace MB Church, begun in September 2001, offers a full range of Sunday school classes from preschool to college and career to adults. The average attendance at the Sunday morning services is about 80. The church has held successful fellowship events. Leadership is currently being given by Peter Durksen. Barb Reimer
