Coaldale, Alta.
Mennonite churches in Coaldale unite to bring VBS program to their community

“Unexpectedly incredible” was the description of this summer’s Vacation Bible School program coordinated by Coaldale (Alta.) Mennonite Brethren and Mennonite Churches.

The theme of the program was “Keys to the Kingdom”. Over 320 children from kindergarten to grade 6 participated throughout the week of July 16–20. The program, run by the collaborative efforts of over 70 volunteers, focused on teaching children the basic concepts of having a relationship with Christ. It included worship, singing, drama, crafts, special recreational activities and a carnival, based on the theme. A food drive raised over $1000 in non-perishable food items for the local food bank.

Twenty-eight local businesses helped support the program as well.

The program has been gaining momentum over the last few years. This year, the program had almost 100 more registrations than last year, which was a record year. Plans are already in the works for next year’s program.
