Burnaby/Abbotsford, B.C.
Two new churches emerging

The B.C. MB Conference Board of Church Extension has been working with two emerging churches this summer. Each has a substantial starting core group and a full-time pastor.

Grace Ethiopian Evangelical Church in Burnaby, with an attendance of 80 people, has been approved by BOCE as an adopted church plant. Asfow Bekele from Toronto was recently appointed as the church’s first full-time pastor, starting in July. This group is excited about reaching Amharic-speaking people in the greater Vancouver area.

A new church plant in Abbotsford has been accepted by BOCE as an emerging church, in consultation with the leaders of Northview Community Church, since a number of people in this church plant came from Northview. Paul and Melody Loewen, most recently from Fresno, Calif., have accepted the call to pastor this church and will begin their ministry in August. This emerging church plans to have its launch service on September 16 in Dave Kandal Elementary School on Mt. Lehman Road in west Abbotsford. It also plans to have a public interest meeting on August 26.
