The Voyage
Trevor Olfert and the Mission Orchestra. Open Sky Music, 1999

Thirteen songs grace this latest CD by Trevor Olfert and the Mission Orchestra. These are new arrangements of old favourites like “Take My Life and Let It Be”, “It Is Well” and “Amazing Grace” interspersed with original tunes composed by Olfert.

The music is relaxing, good just after a stressful day. I noticed a Celtic influence combined with some jazz and blues.

Olfert states on the album, “Through a contemporary blend of traditional and original music, I hope to weave together music that is both inspiring and reflective. Music that will take you somewhere new, yet remind you of where you’ve been. Old wine in new wineskins.”

To this end, I think Olfert and his ensemble of musicians have succeeded.

Peter J. Woelk is editorial assistant for MB Herald.
