Previous | Next REFLECTIONS In the service of Christ
 Mary Friesen
When a church sends out missionaries, it is understood that they have entered into the service of Christ. It seems that we consider service of Christ to be a special call to a specific ministry. The apostle Paul tells the young church leader Timothy that if he properly teaches the congregation, he will be a “good servant of Jesus Christ” (1 Timothy 4:6).

The question needs to be asked: Does the commitment to a life of service of Christ necessarily lead to full-time ministry in the church? What about the people on the factory assembly line who are working hard to provide for their families? What about the social worker struggling to balance the heavy case load with adequate time for his/her family? How do they serve Christ? According to Jesus’ own words in Matthew 25:40, whatever we do to the least among us, we have done to Him. We, too, have an opportunity to serve Christ in thought, word and deed, wherever we interact with people.
Reflections is a column of brief reflections on Scripture passages. This one is by Mary Friesen of Winnipeg, Man. Freelance submission for Reflections (200-250 words in length) are welcome.
