Previous | Next Ottawa, Ont. Thousands participate in prayer assembly

Over 7,000 people from many denominations came together to pray and praise God at the Canadian Prayer Assembly. On the evening of May 26, people streamed through the gates of the football stadium in Ottawas Lansdowne Park to celebrate the diversity and calling of the church in Canadas cultural and linguistic groups.

The spirit of the assemblys theme, If My People. . . (2 Chronicles 7:14), was evident as people knelt, held hands and embraced in prayer for their communities and churches and for renewed personal intimacy with God.

It was a powerful and moving time focused on glorifying God, said Brian Warren. As people prayed you could see their expressions were those of believers seeking God and expressing their love and longing for Him.

The theme of reconciliation was illustrated throughout the program. At one point during the assembly, representatives from over 10 Protestant denominations expressed a commitment on behalf of their group to avoid conflict and build a spirit of greater unity and humility within the Canadian church. A Roman Catholic bishop and a Messianic Jewish rabbi also spoke of the wider family of God of which the evangelical church is part.

The 22 speakers that participated in the event were drawn from a variety of denominations and from many linguistic and cultural groups.

I have felt all through this day, said Jacqueline Dugas, who spoke on the saving power of God, that it is a privilege not just to speak to such a great assembly but to talk about Gods saving power in the capital of our nation. It is overwhelming to see Christians from across the nation praising God before it. Evangelical Fellowship of Canada
