  • Margaret Lockhart

    Margaret Lockhart
    Margaret Lockhart of Grande Prairie, Alta. passed away Apr. 25. She was born Aug. 25, 1909 to Jacob and Margaret Franz in Klippenfeldt, Russia. In 1925 the family immigrated to Canada, settling on the Adair Ranch near Wembley, Alta. In 1934 she moved to Vancouver to work as a nanny and housekeeper. She joined the MB church in Vancouver. In March 1946 she married Ivan Lockhart in Lethbridge, Alta. They farmed in Claresholm, Alta. for 2 years, then Hythe, Alta. for 26 years. After retirement, they moved to Hythe and later to Grande Prairie. Predeceased by 4 brothers and 1 sister, she is mourned by Ivan; daughters Marlene Collins and Yvonne Lessack; 7 grandchildren; and 2 sisters. The funeral was Apr. 29 in La Glace (Alta.) Bible Fellowship, with Nelson Senft ministering.



    Lowell Edmund Erickson

    Lowell Edmund Erickson
    Lowell Edmund Erickson of Kamloops, B.C. passed away Jan. 18 of cancer. He was born July 2, 1938 in Maryfield, Sask. He accepted Christ at age 9 and was baptized by his father, a lay minister. He married Carolyn Munday July 30, 1966 in New Westminster, B.C. He loved ranching and raised purebred Charolais cattle in Maryfield. In 1980 they moved to Kamloops, where he continued ranching and became a realtor. He is remembered as a friendly, happy person always ready to share his joy and faith with others. During retirement, they made several mission trips, to Haiti in 1998 and Peru in spring 1999. On June 1, 1999 he was diagnosed with a fast-growing brain tumour. His health failed rapidly, and his son Craig cared for him. He is mourned by Carolyn; children Craig, Susan Dupuis and Lisel Copeland; and 1 granddaughter. The funeral was Jan. 22 in Valleyview Bible Church, Kamloops, with LaMont Schmidt ministering.



    Agatha Klassen

    Agatha Klassen
    Agatha Klassen of St. Catharines, Ont. passed away Apr. 22 of a stroke. She was born Sept. 1, 1910 to Johann and Gertrud Klassen in Blumenfeld, Ukraine. Her mother died when Agatha was 9; she left school at 13 to cook and clean for her family. In 1928 the family immigrated to Waterloo, Ont., where she worked on farms, helped a retired doctor and packaged meat at Schneiders for 6 years. She trained as a practical nurse and worked at St. Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton Sanatorium, Bethesda and Shaver Hospital. After retirement, she acquired a driver’s licence. She moved to an apartment near Scott Street MB Church in St. Catharines, where she was a member. She volunteered for 22 years at Tabor Manor. She was loved and appreciated for her cheerful optimism and service. In August 1999, she suffered her first stroke. On Dec. 1, 1999 she moved to Tabor Manor. Predeceased by her parents, stepmother Tina Klassen, 4 brothers and 2 sisters, she is mourned by sisters Helen and Bertha. The funeral was Apr. 26 at Tallman Funeral Chapel, Vineland, Ont., with Rudie Willms ministering.



    Friedrich Schroeder

    Friedrich Schroeder
    Friedrich (Fred) Schroeder of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away May 7. He was born Mar. 8, 1910 to Johann and Otilie Schroeder in Zygmuntowo, Poland. During World War I, the family resettled in Russia, only to return to Poland in 1918. At age 10, he felt convicted in a Bible class; at 14, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church; at 17, he committed his life to the Lord. He became active in a youth fellowship. He married Lora Nickel Feb. 14, 1940. During World War II, he was separated from his family for a while, while working for the German railroad. In 1949 the family came to Canada. He worked as a farmhand for 2 years in Namaka, Alta. before moving to Arnold, B.C., then Abbotsford, where he cleared 10 acres to farm. He also worked for some years at the FVMPA. He and Lora were baptized and joined South Abbotsford MB Church. In 1966 they joined King Road MB Church; here they taught Sunday school, were deacons and sang in the senior choir. In 1968 they retired to Clearbrook, B.C. In 1972 Lora died of cancer. On Feb. 7, 1976, he married Kathryne Klein, a widow living in Richmond, B.C. In 1991 they joined Clearbrook MB Church, where they served as deacons and senior choir members until poor health intervened. He was active in the community, including serving several years at Clearbrook Community Centre, where he helped seniors and those on fixed incomes complete income tax forms. He also led many bus trips for the Golden Age Society. He is remembered as a loving husband and father who always sought to nurture his family spiritually and lend a helping hand wherever he could. He felt that the Lord had truly blessed him; he looked forward to going home. Predeceased by Lora, he is mourned by Kathryne; children Elli Driediger of Abbotsford, Chris Casey of Italy, Ethel Valiant of Kelowna, B.C., Walter of Surrey, B.C. and John of Abbotsford; stepdaughter Evelyn Kliewer of Prince George, B.C.; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The funeral was May 12 in Clearbrook MB Church, with Peter J. Klassen, Jay Neufeld and Eldon DeFehr ministering.



    Marshall Philip

    Marshall Philip
    Marshall Philip of Valhaven Care Home, Abbotsford, B.C., passed away May 6. He was born Aug. 4, 1907 to John and Abella Philip in Aberdeen, Scotland. He served in the UK armed forces for 7 years. He married Audrey McDonald Clarke. She died in 1981. He then immigrated to Canada. In December 1992 he married Nancy Broers of Abbotsford. An accomplished artist, he is remembered for his art classes in the early 1990s. He is mourned by daughter Audrey Beattie of Surrey, B.C.; stepchildren Bill Broers of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Bev Kirk of Abbotsford; 5 grandchildren; 8 stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. The funeral was May 10 in Clearbrook MB Church, Abbotsford, with Peter J. Klassen, Jay Neufeld and Eldon DeFehr ministering.



    William Haggith

    William Haggith
    William (Bill) Haggith of Leamington, Ont. passed away Feb. 10. He was born Nov. 25, 1922 to William and Margaret Haggith in Bothwell, Ont. He was baptized in 1938 in Chatham, Ont. by Rev. Wilson. He moved to Windsor to work at the Chrysler plant. He married Julie Bertok July 7, 1945. In 1959 they moved to Leamington to farm and help Julie’s parents farm. In 1974 he joined Leamington MB Church. Predeceased by a brother, he is mourned by Julie; sons Louis and Joseph; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers. The funeral was Feb. 12 in Leamington MB Church, with Henry Regier ministering.
