Scottdale, Pa.
Next editor of The Mennonite named

Everett J. Thomas has been named the next editor of The Mennonite, effective Nov. 1. Thomas has been president of Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries for the past 11 years. He will succeed J. Lorne Peachey, the magazine’s first editor, who will step down this summer. The Mennonite is the periodical of the Mennonite Church USA.

Previously, Thomas was a teacher and administrator at Bethany Christian High School in Goshen, Ind. As MBCM president, he has been active in the integration of General Conference Mennonite Church and Mennonite Church. The two conferences are merging to form Mennonite Church USA. Thomas has also worked on ministerial leadership, young adult and youth conventions, and congregational ministries in worship, evangelism and stewardship. He edited the 1996 “A Mennonite Polity for Ministerial Leadership”, used by the integrating church.

Thomas will continue to live in Goshen while supervising magazine operations in Newton, Kan., and Scottdale, Pa.

He has a degree in English from Goshen College and an M.Div. from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Ind. He was ordained by Indiana-Michigan Conference in 1990.

Peachey will take a joint marketing position with Pennsylvania Mennonite Federal Credit Union and Sharing Programs of Lancaster Conference, working out of Scottdale. Previously, he was editor of Gospel Herald for seven years, was founding editor of With magazine and was editor of Christian Living.
