As we come together

Lorna Tatomir

Jesus is present with us
Here today,
In the midst of each thought,
In every word we say.

Let us bring Him honour
As we gather in His name.
A towel, bowl, a pitcher–
In service Jesus came.

No task too small,
No person less important
Than the rest,
When measured on the scale of Life.
His nail-scarred hands,
The balance, tests
The value of each soul–

On one side the world,
On the other the cross.

“When I wrote this poem I had a picture of universe-sized Nail Scarred Hands holding an ancient set of balance scales, with clouds, a world or stars in the background. Jesus holds our lives in the balance. And with his sacrifice on the cross, the balance is even. The nail-scarred hands are symbolic of the cost. I thought how handicapped people, unborn children, the feeble are valued less in our world, but in the eyes and sacrifice of Christ we are all worth the same love and caring. He is our model for servanthood and value of a human life.”

Lorna Tatomir lives in Abbotsford, B.C.
