Lendrum MB Church in Edmonton held a millennium celebration Jan. 2. The focus of the event was to look back over the past millennium and to celebrate the churchs response to world events.

As the congregation entered the sanctuary, it saw the symbols of the Alpha and the Omega reminders of Gods faithfulness to them over the years.

Rudy Wiebe led the church in tracing its roots reflecting on the cost of faithfulness to a vision and new understanding of faith. From there, Dave Hubert helped the church trace the implementation of Menno Simonss vision that true evangelical faith cannot lie dormant, into the work and development of Mennonite Central Committee; it clothes, feeds, comforts, shelters, serves, binds and becomes all things to all people.

The trends and responses that formed the church were examined. Among them has been a strong conviction that each person should enrich the fellowship by using the talents and situations that God provides. Reflecting this notion, Diana Wiens led the church choir in singing There are many gifts but one Spirit composed by Lendrum member Carol Dyck.

Five major projects the church has supported over the years are: Youth orientation units, Ten Thousand Villages, Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Edmonton Recycling Society and Habitat for Humanity.

A communion service and a luncheon concluded the event.
