Here are some new books or reprints we think you’ll enjoy checking out:

  • Fraser Valley Vignettes. Stories, Memoirs, Inspirations and Meditations, by the Fraser Valley Christian Writers of Abbotsford, B.C.

(Victory Publishers, 1999). A collection of writings by writers, some of whom have been published extensively, others only locally.

  • Companions for your Spiritual Journey. Discovering the Disciplines of the Saints.

Mark Harris. (IVP 1999). Harris has sought to deepen his spiritual life by reading from and studying some of the spiritual giants of the past: John Bunyan, Origen, Julian of Norwich, Bernard of Clairvaux, and others.

  • Salt and Sign. Mennonite Central Committee in Palestine, 1949-1999.

Alain Epp Weaver and Sonia K. Weaver. (Mennonite Central Committee, 1999). This book chronicles the work done in Palestine in peace efforts, with marginalized people (refugees, women, farmers, disabled, etc.) and in education. It is well researched, and illustrated with maps and photos.

  • Pocket Dictionary of Theological Terms.

Stanley J. Grenz, David Guretzki and Cherith Fee Nordling. (IVP, 1999). For the beginning theology student who wants to know the definition of many of the terms used in theological writing; terms like nihilism, omnipotence, progressive revelation; as well as who some of the classic writers of theology were, like Irenaeus, Kant and Origen. A good reference book.

  • A Christian View of Hospitality. Expecting Surprises.

Michele Hershberger. (Herald Press, 1999, $13.49). Hospitality is an invitation to experience God in a new way. Hershberger has made that a way of life, and has experienced the joy of hosting others, and also of being hosted. Both are gifts.
