Previous | Next To my dear father
 Cornie Guenter
As I look back into the past, my mind is overwhelmed with memories of you, my father, and the priceless heritage you have given me and my family. I still remember the joy of working with you on your many carpentry projects. You were always respected for your physical strength, but more importantly for your strength of character. Your commitment to your principles was always uncompromising. This made me very proud of you as a young boy. Later in life, and even today, this strength serves to help me through my daily problems, and my children through theirs.

In fall, you were always in demand as a stooker and field pitcher. Your sense of humour kept the harvest crews working at peak capacity. When I finally became old enough to have my own team, I was never happier than when I worked alongside you, pitching up the bundles till my load was the highest on the field.

The dignity and grace, confidence and strength, with which you performed your pastoral duties gave your messages authority and credibility. It was always a pleasure to come home to your congregations in Munich, Yale, Altona and Dalmeny and feel the affection the people had for you.

But best of all, Dad, was your love for me. Whether you were teaching me how to use a spade or about the mysteries of my sexuality, whether you were rewarding me for a job well done or punishing me for a sin of commission or omission, your love was constant, always the same. This is the best part of the heritage you have given me, the part of you that will live on and on. I love you dearly, and I wish you Gods blessing and reward.

Very lovingly,
Cornie
