Henry and Annabelle Wiebe began ministry Oct. 1 in Warman (Sask.) MB Church. The focus of their one-year assignment will be on conflict resolution and reconciliation. Previously, they were involved in ministry with Burden Bearers of Canada in Fort St. John, B.C. They have pastored churches in Prespatou, B.C. and Fort St. John. They have six grown children and five grandchildren.



Herb Neufeld began serving Oct. 1 as half-time interim pastor of East Aldergrove MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C. He is also serving half-time in donor development for MB Biblical Seminary. Previously, he pastored seven years at Mountain Park Community Church, Abbotsford, several years at Central Heights MB Church, Abbotsford, and 15 years at Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C. He and his wife Adeline have four grown children and 12 grandchildren.

Thom Gessner began serving as pastor of young adult ministries at Central Heights MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. on Oct. 19. He and his wife Kristy have been attending the church for the past six years. He studied four years toward a B.R.E. at Northwest Baptist Theological College in Langley, B.C., then worked for a-year-and-a-half in communications. For the past four years, he has been a multiple-store sales manager for Sunglass Hut International. He previously served as a pastoral intern at Fort McMurray (Alta.) Fellowship Baptist Church and as a college and career pastoral intern in Parksville (B.C.) Baptist Church. Kristy has an A.R.E. from Northwest Baptist Theological College. The Gessners have a daughter, Emileigh, 2.



Forty-nine workers participated in orientation at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa., Sept. 7-17. Twenty are beginning overseas assignments, and 29 are beginning assignments in North America.

Darryl and Shirley Peters of Brandon, Man. are beginning three-year assignments in Botswana. Darryl will be teaching; Shirley’s assignment is yet to be determined. Darryl has a B.Ed. from the University of Winnipeg. Shirley has a bachelor’s degree in missions and biblical studies from Providence College, Otterburne, Man. Previously, Darryl was a vice-principal and teacher in Brandon. They are members of Richmond Park MB Church in Brandon, and have three children, Cyprian, Leah and Reyna.

Henry Suderman of Abbotsford, B.C., is beginning a two-year assignment as co-manager for the MCC furniture and appliance store in Abbotsford. He has a B.Ed. from the University of British Columbia. Previously, he was a teacher in Coquitlam, B.C. He and his wife Marina are members of Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C. They have three children, Darryl, Elaine and Janet.



Bakerview MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C., baptized Andrew van Dokkumberg Aug. 22 and Trevor Law Aug. 29.



Fairview Louth MB Community Church in St. Catharines, Ont., baptized Kristy Lockyer Oct. 10.



Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, B.C., held its annual “Spiritual Emphasis Week” Oct. 4-8, with speaker Frank Colacurcio, a pastor and evangelist from Rocklin, Calif. He challenged students to examine what they believe about Jesus (Monday), what they believe about God the Father (Tuesday), what they believe about forgiveness (Wednesday), what they believe about their own following of Christ (Thursday) and what they believe about the future (Friday). On Friday, he invited the students either to accept Christ for the first time or to commit to following Him more faithfully. Hundreds of students raised their hands to make one of the two decisions.
