Kae Neufeld began as part-time interim associate pastor at Lendrum MB Church in Edmonton Aug. 1 for one year, serving in the area of small groups, Christian education and pastoral care. Previously, she was school principal for eight years and taught in the Edmonton public school district for 14 years.

She is a member of the MB Biblical Seminary Board. She has been moderator of the church and has chaired several commissions. She has also chaired the board for the Centre for Newcomers in Edmonton. She studied for one year at Manitoba Teachers’ College, and has a B.Ed. and an M.Ed. from the University of Alberta. She has also studied at Regent College in Vancouver, and is working towards a master’s degree through Edmonton Baptist Seminary and St. Stephen’s College in Edmonton. She and her husband Don have three grown children and three grandchildren.



George & Eileen Klassen
George Klassen has accepted a call to pastor North Kildonan MB Church in Winnipeg, effective Jan. 1, 2000. Previously, he pastored Salem MB Church in Freeman, S.D. for five years. He has a B.R.S. from MB Bible (Concord) College in Winnipeg and an M.A. from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. His wife Eileen has studied at Winkler (Man.) Bible Institute. The Klassens farm in Manitou, Man., and have three children, Karen, 24, Tammy, 22, and Philip, 18.



C.M. Chan resigned after eight months as senior pastor of Burnaby (B.C.) Pacific Grace Chinese Church, effective June 28. Previously, he pastored churches in Hong Kong, Toronto, Israel and Taiwan. He is exploring new ministry opportunities. He and his wife Gloria have two children, Jasper, 7, and Golda, 4.



Linden (Alta.) MB Church commissioned Allen and Esther Andres Sept. 29 for a short-term mission trip to the Philippines. They are serving there with Church Partnership Evangelism Oct. 8-26.



Greg and Heather Wiens were commissioned Aug. 15 as youth pastor couple at Elm Creek (Man.) MB Church. Herb Kopp, Manitoba MB Conference Minister, preached. Kopp, pastor John Willems and Cal and Gloria Penner offered a prayer of dedication. A fellowship meal followed.



Richmond Park MB Church in Brandon, Man. held a commissioning service Aug. 22 for Darryl and Shirley Peters, along with their three children, Cyprian, Leah and Reyna. The Peters are beginning a three-year assignment with Mennonite Central Committee in Gaborone, Botswana. Darryl will be teaching in a school in a slum area of the city. Their children will be attending a private school in Gaborone. Terry Sawatzky of MCC gave the commissioning message.



Twenty-nine people participated in a SALT orientation at Mennonite Central Committee headquarters in Akron, Pa., Aug. 22-27. SALT (Serving and Learning Together) is a one-year program for

young adults interested in working overseas. Gilda Bernath of Vancouver will be working as a teacher/tutor and women’s development assistant in Zambia. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of British Columbia. Previously, she worked as a business services representative in Vancouver. She is a member of Willingdon Church, Burnaby, B.C.

Karen Friesen of Morden, Man. will be working as an English teacher in Indonesia. She has a B.A. in communications from Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. She is a member of Westside Community Church in Morden.

Rachel Klassen
Rachel Klassen of Edmonton will be working as a childcare worker in Uganda. She has a certificate from Grant MacEwan Community College in Edmonton. Previously, she worked as a childcare worker in Edmonton. She is a member of Sunrise Community Church in Edmonton.

Corinne Peters of Winnipeg will be working as a nutrition assistant in Zambia. She has a B.A. in psychology and women’s studies from the University of Manitoba. Previously, she worked at Jensen’s Nursery in Winnipeg. She is affiliated with The Meeting Place, Winnipeg.



Tim and Cindy Buhler began serving a three-year term in Hong Kong Aug. 1 with Commission on Overseas Mission and Mennonite Board of Missions. After a time of language study and culture understanding, they will serve in various ministries in the Hong Kong Mennonite Church. Previously, they served with COM in Taiwan 1988-91. They are members of Northview Community Church in Abbotsford, B.C., and have two daughters, Chelsey and Kristyn.



John Nikkel has been hired as senior pastor of Manitou (Man.) MB Church, effective Feb. 1, 2000. Currently, he works at a retreat centre for pastors in Maui. Previously, he pastored East Aldergrove MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. for six years, Leamington (Ont.) MB Church for six years and Grace Church of the Mennonite Brethren in Cranberry Portage, Man. for five-and-a-half years. During this time, he also was director of Simonhouse Bible Camp. He taught a dozen years and served a two-year assignment with MCC in Jamaica. He has a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg, a B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba and a master’s degree from Canadian Theological Seminary in Regina. He and his wife Maryanne have four sons, Paul, Steve, Andrew and Matthew, and four grandchildren.
