Kindred Productions has sent out a resource packet to all MB pastors highlighting its resources, and is sending other copies to MB conference ministers with the request that they pass on the packets to new pastors. Kindred publishes four product lines for the General MB Conference: inspirational, Bible Study/curriculum, church resources and historical. The kit includes a 50-page church resource catalogue featuring books, music and curriculum; a brochure explaining who the Mennonite Brethren are; and a pamphlet highlighting youth and adult resources based on MBs core values, including peace and reconciliation and missions.
Emily Aaker, a grade one pupil in Bemidji, Minn., was permitted to play her favourite Christian music cassette as part of a school program after the Rutherford Institute sent a letter to the schools principal explaining Emilys First Amendment rights. Emilys teacher told her that she could not play Surf and Turtles because it contained religious songs. Evangelical Press News Service
The Lord of the Rings, the trilogy by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, was named the greatest book of the century by more than 5,000 of 25,000 respondents in a nationwide poll conducted in January 1997 by the British bookstore chain Waterstones. George Orwells 1984 was second. The Daily Telegraph polled its readers with similar results. The Folio Society asked its 50,000 members to chose their favourite book from any century. The winners were The Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice and David Copperfield, in that order. Western Report
InTheBible.com, a Bible software company in the US, in conjunction with Metro One Music, distributed over 200,000 copies of Bible Browser, a Bible software, in 1999. The software is on Metro One Musics enhanced CDs, which allow the computer user to view Scripture that relates to the lyrics as well as download over 15 study tools, including three Bibles, a Bible study guide, a mini topical Bible and concordances. Web Evangelism Bulletin is a free monthly e-mail newsletter designed to help Christians in the area of outreach over the Internet. It gives instruction on how to write articles and testimonies, how to bring visitors to a site and how to witness through e-mail and chat rooms. Road to Freedom: Mennonites Escape the Land of Suffering is a new book which chronicles the experiences of many Mennonites in the Soviet Union from the beginnings of communism to their migrations to Canada, South America and Germany.
