George Baier became senior pastor of Culloden MB Church in Vancouver on May 1. Since Nov. 1, 1998, he had been pastor to seniors at the church. Previously, he was associate pastor of Clearbrook MB Church in Abbotsford, B.C. for six years, pastored Peachland (B.C.) Baptist Church for five years, pastored Central MB Church in Winnipeg for four years, was youth pastor at Clearbrook MB Church and served with MBMS International in Germany and Congo. He has a Diploma of Sacred Music from MB Bible (Concord) College in Winnipeg, a B.A. from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kan. and an M.A. from Providence College in Otterburne, Man. He and his wife Mary have one daughter and three grandchildren.
Ewald Unruh, executive director for the Board of Evangelism of the Canadian MB Conference, is taking a study leave Sept. 7-Dec. 17 and Feb. 7-May 17. He will be back at work for part of December and January. Unruh, who has held this position for seven years, will be studying at MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif. His wife Linda, director of the childrens ministry at The Meeting Place in Winnipeg, will be accompanying him part of the time. Tim Wiebe has been hired as full-time youth pastor in Bakerview MB Church, Abbotsford, B.C., effective Oct. 1. Previously, he was a youth sponsor at Ebenezer Community Church in Abbotsford, was a youth sponsor and leader in Osler (Sask.) Community Church, and interned in Neuanlage (Sask.) Grace Mennonite Church. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Saskatoon and was a truck driver. He has a B.A. in youth and caregiving from Columbia Bible College.
Darrell Janzen became director of Simonhouse Bible Camp near Cranberry Portage, Man., on June 28. He replaces Ted Goossen, who is now associate pastor at Winkler (Man.) MB Church. Previously, Janzen worked for camps in Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon and for a lumber mill in Kelowna, B.C., his home town. He attended the Torchbearers Bodenseehof Bible school in Germany for a year and has a B.R.E. from Prairie Bible College in Three Hills, Alta.
Stephen Kuntz completed his ministry July 31 as part-time associate pastor in Lendrum MB Church in Edmonton. The church expressed its appreciation for his ministry at a luncheon Aug. 1. After serving the church for three years, he has decided to pursue other interests. Kuntz is a sessional instructor in the Dept. of English at the University of Alberta. He has an M.A. in English. He and his wife Karen have two children, Nathanael, 5, and Hannah, 3. Also during the luncheon, the church expressed its appreciation to Jennie Benke, who served the church as Christian education intern.
Elwood Wiebe began Sept. 1 as finance director for Concord College in Winnipeg. He is a fifth level CMA student and has a diploma in business administration from Okanagan University College, Kelowna, B.C. Previously, he worked for two accounting firms in Abbotsford, B.C., worked for a year-and-a-half for Permion Technologies Inc. in Kelowna and ran his own accounting practice for four years in Kelowna. He is originally from Swift Current, Sask. He and his wife Tamira have a son, Max, 2 months old.
Wally and Martha Kroeker, former pastor couple at Boissevain (Man.) MB Church, have completed a two-year assignment as hosts for a guest house with Mennonite Central Committee in Akron, Pa. Wally has now been hired as part-time associate pastor of outreach at Whitewater Mennonite Church in Boissevain. Previously, he pastored Boissevain MB Church for 15 years, was director of MCC B.C., pastored Vauxhall (Alta.) MB Church, and farmed in Elm Creek, Man. He attended Winkler (Man.) Bible School, and has a B.Th. from MB Bible (Concord) College in Winnipeg and an M.A. from MB Biblical Seminary in Fresno, Calif.
Kathryn Mitchell Loewen of Winnipeg is half-time Womens Network Coordinator for Mennonite Central Committee Canada. She and her husband Russell worked with MCC in Newfoundland 1987-90. She was a member of the MCC Manitoba Womens Concern Committee, helped facilitate pre-marriage seminars in Winnipeg and Brandon, Man., was active in worship planning and leading, and has worked with issues of pastoral sexual abuse. She has studied at Baptist Leadership Training School in Calgary and has a degree in agriculture from University of Manitoba. The Loewens have four children. They attend Fort Garry Mennonite Fellowship in Winnipeg.
Mark and Amy Klassen were hired at the end of August as part-time interim workers in Yarrow (B.C.) MB Church. Amy will lead youth ministries, and Mark will preach and be involved in Christian education. Amy has a B.A. in psychology from Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. Mark has an M.C.S. in biblical studies from Regent College in Vancouver. They will also be working with Youth Mission Internationals TREK program, and Amy will be coordinating YMIs Northwest SOAR (Sold Out and Radical) program.
