REFLECTIONS
Clouds of blessing

Liese Wiebe

Psalm 78:14

Reading through the Psalms, I came across Psalm 78:14: “In the daytime also He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire” (KJV). The words “He led them with a cloud” suddenly came into focus. They have long hours of sunshine in the desert, and the way to the promised land was unfamiliar. In following the cloud, the Israelites would experience God’s protection and care. To the Israelites, the cloud was a beautiful picture of the presence of God throughout their wilderness journey.

Reflecting on the cloud God used to show the Israelites the way, I wondered if God uses similar methods today.

It’s sunshine, Lord, I asked from Thee,
But all the while this cloud I see.
I watch it closely day by day:
At times it moves; at times it stays.
It’s really darkening my sky.
Please tell me, Lord, the reason why?

I sent the cloud to shade the skies.
All sunshine tends to blind the eyes.
That path ahead I planned for you,
And by this cloud I’ll see you through.

Oh thank You, Lord, for now I see
This blessed cloud is leading me.
