Editor’s notes

Jim Coggins

Pastors are spiritual leaders in our congregations and members of our congregations. They are also employees hired by our congregations. Sometimes this dual status of pastors leads to conflict and confusion. The articles in this issue of the Herald (the second of two issues on leadership) look at various aspects of the pastor as employee. Our purpose in publishing this issue is not to push for any one point of view but rather to help us all think through the whole matter. The better we understand the role of pastor as employee, the more we will all be able to handle this complex matter with grace and wisdom.
